About PDF to PDF/A

PDF/A is the ISO standard for long-term archiving: fonts are embedded and features that depend on outside resources are removed. QPDF converts with Ghostscript compiled to WebAssembly, running locally.

How to use it

  1. Select your PDF, or drag it onto the drop area.
  2. Choose the PDF/A level your archive or court system requires.
  3. Convert and download.

Your file stays on your device

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your file is read from your device, processed in memory, and saved back to your device — it is never uploaded to QPDF or anyone else. The first time you use it, your browser downloads the Ghostscript engine (software only, about 15 MB) from qpdf.ca and keeps it for offline use.

Good to know

  • This tool downloads the Ghostscript and PyMuPDF engines (about 70 MB in total) the first time you use it.
  • Conversion makes a best effort. For formal compliance, verify the result with a dedicated validator such as veraPDF.
  • Digital signatures, JavaScript and some interactive features are removed by conversion.
